Frequently Asked Questions

When is the memorial?

The memorial will be held on Saturday, September 20th at 5:00 PM until everyone passes out.

Where will the memorial be held?

The memorial will be held at at “The G Ranch” Garner and Rose Geisler’s Ranch in San Marcos, Texas. The address is 500 Harris Hill Road, San Marcos, TX 78666. Garner is Kimberly’s brother, and has hosted several weddings, events, and tons of parties. He’s no stranger to hosting events and we always have a good time. There will be plenty of space, an air conditioned building, games, food, drinks, etc. There will also be plenty of parking.

Can I help with anything?

There will definitely be opportunities to help. Please reach out to Darren if there is something specific you would like to help with. It will be much appreciated.

What airport should I fly into?

You can fly into either the San Antonio International Airport (SAT) or Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). I recommend flying into Austin. There are two easy, direct routes to San Marcos from the Austin Airport, and it’s only about a 35 minute drive with no traffic. If you fly into San Antonio, it will take an hour with no traffic, but there is always traffic.

Should I rent a car?

It’s not a bad idea to rent a car. Everything is far in Texas, so catching rides or Ubers aren’t always easy or cheap options. However, we understand that renting a car isn’t always an affordable option. We have plenty of family around the area that can give rides to and from airports and hotels, etc. Most of us will be busy working on the service, so it will just need to be coordinated.

Where should I stay?

The event is in San Marcos, so I would recommend staying there. There are a ton of hotel options, as well as vacation rentals and Airbnbs. The San Marcos River runs right through town, where you can swim and float when you’re not attending the event. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and things to do as well. You will also be right in the middle of Austin and San Antonio, and near New Braunfels.

What should I wear to the event?

My mom loved her Hawaiian heritage, but she also loved being a Texan. So wear you favorite casual Hawaiian or Texan attire. That should be pretty easy for most of you! Even though it’s September, it’s still Texas, so it will still be HOT, so dress accordingly. There will be A/C, but it’s an open concept building and it can still get a little sweaty.

Will there be food?

Of course! If there’s one thing we know how to do well, it’s EAT. We plan to have BBQ (is there anything else) with all of the fixings.

Will there be drinks?

Yes, there will be plenty of drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. If there is something specific you like, or would like to contribute, feel free to bring it.

Can I speak or share a story at the service?

Yes, there will be opportunities to speak or tell your stories. If you would like to share ahead of time, you can actually do so HERE.

Who should I contact if I have other questions?
